Every single chapter has had a price cut in retail stores about a month after its release. Heck, there's normally a SECOND price cut that will take another $5.00 (or so) off in a few more weeks, if you want to wait that long.

I haven't paid full price for any of the chapters so far.

Price drops happen all the time and with the approaching Christmas holiday it should not be a surprise. The Apple refund thing is a completely different thing.

A) The apple price drop was $100 dollars. You are complaining about a price drop of $10 dollars. That's a big difference. Apple's customer's were screwed. You were inconvienced.

B) Apple can afford to supply a rebate, being a behemoth company compared to NCSoft.

Apple offered $100 to anyone thats ever bought the iPhone, and $200 to everyone that bought it within like 2 weeks of the price drop.

All I stated was that I'm kinda bummed to the fact that NF HAS NEVER HAD A PRICE DROP, factions is still $40, and prophecies is still $30... so why did Anet give the go to sell GW:EN for $10 less within a month of it dropping! It's crazy IMO.

I actually have a question though, if it really was Anet who gave the ok, why is it $40 in the online store?

Distributors can put more pressure on the developers by simply saying something along the lines of : "allow us to lower your price in our stores or will will NOT sell any of your products in the future".

thats what id do at least.

i dont see why anybody will complain about seeing a price drop. for example, i bought a game system. now the system sees a price drop. would i say "0H N43S I L4ST M0N7EZ" i knew a system was gonna have a price drop, but i pay the price for being an early adopter. the same thign applies to games. all those who bought halo 3 for 60 CANNOT complain about a future price drop because they knew games will drop in price when they bought the game early.

I am glad to see this thread is turning out positive, GG on all the responses so far. Except 1!

Also to answer your question the reason is probably to see if the sales at that store improve, giving them an idea of the reaction if they do an across the board reduction, or give the stores a little flexibility on pricing meaning they don;t loose as much money. The online store would be the last to change prices seeing as it is directly run by NC Soft.

To the last poster I normally would say you are Totally right, and you maybe right on this. But a price drop of 25% in 30 days. Even that caught my eye as a brutally bad thing for any major company to do considering they pay people 10's of thousands of dollars to properly market and price point their products Remember us Canadians 50% price cut LOL (show the Canadians!!! some love)

IMO since GW:EN is an expansion(requiring one of the 3 full standalone campaigns) it should not have been priced in the same league as the 3 full standalone campaigns. Expansions, IMO should sell for no more than $19.99 to $24.99 just because it's an expansion.

It costs retail stores $$$ to keep ANYTHING on the shelf, you guys know that right? If you have overstocked a game that isn't selling that well of course you'd try to lower the price to get rid of it.

I'm not really surprised by this, Anet does have the mission packs available only to those who make an online purchase of X $$. How many people bought EotN online because of that, I know I did. And it is the only reason I bought at the online store.

So I'm guessing that retailers overestimated box sales, should have read the forums - lol.

I did read somewhere that EotN did top sales in Europe the week of release, saw nothing about it making a dent in North America. Of course that may have something to do with the online store sales.

The other thing I forgot to mention, how many would have been turned off about the mission pack promo thing. If you bought it online you get, if at store you don't - and all for the same price.

It’s overstock to Best Buy now. They probably did not sell as many as they expected, so this is one way to downsize the shelf space that EotN is taking up. By the end of the week the price will be back to its regular form. So all in all, this probably had nothing to do with A-net. It's just how retailers conducts their business.

Lyra is right; it’s just a sale for now.

wow am I actually going to defend anet? I believe so.

I've worked in the retail industry (I made wine, which is entirely different than games, but the retail aspect has similarities). If you produce (game or wine), you sell to (distributor for wholesale cost), who then has sole possession of the (game or wine). The distributor then sells to the retailer, for whatever markup they choose, whether it be full retail, or a big rebait. That's basic sales.

If a distributor and retailer sell to each other for a penny over cost, that's their decision. Not a profitable one for sure, but sometimes they do that because product isn't moving (such as a game that bombs.......I won't necessarily say EotN is........but.......), or because they want to promote themselves or the product.

I'm not surprised EotN has already dropped in price. It really had nothing innovative to offer, just more of the same. And then some bad additions like the rep grind drove me and my gf from buying it right away.

Those who buy fast always pay the highest prices. It's a known fact and everybody decides for himself wether to buy a game as soon as it's out or to wait. No reason for complaints.
I'm happily willing to reconsider purchasing Eye of the North if the price drops to 25$. And I expect that to happen within a year.

I can't even check how much it is in GAME here. Mainly because they took down half the games for as much of a Halo 3 promotion as possible. Eye of the North got a shelf, some other games got a shelf and even some on display behind them. Halo 3 ends up with consoles, models, posters, a WALL taken down and Halo 3 merchandise put all over it... I mean, come on. I want to game shop for a variety.

And God forbid you even LOOK at the wall, else you'll get two sales reps SHOULDER RAMMING each other to get to you. (As funny as that was.)

But basing it on assumption, I'm thinking it will still be £25 here.

This is a highly incorrect statement.

Nightfall, Factions and Prophecies all had price drops approximately 1-2 months after their release. As I stated above, I purchased each of these for less than $30 (my best was Factions, which I got for $19.99).

You simply have to pay attention to the Sunday paper and jump on it when the price hits bottom.

Don't forget special events like Holiday sales, Spring specials, Summer specials, Fall specials, Thanksgiving, Christmas, After-Christmas, Valentines, etc.

Selling a brand new game for $10 off from ANY other retailer during a sales event is a very aggressive tactic. Hasbrostore had a 25% off any purchase over $50 with free shipping. Free shipping is basically $10 off already!

You guys act like youve never seen anything on sale before....geeze.

It's common knowledge that product prices drop, whether it be permanent or for a temp sale, after it has been out for some time. If you want the product right after it comes out then you're paying full price for it. End of. In exchange for paying full price you get access as soon as you want it. Didn't think it was worth it? Well, that's your problem, you took the gamble. And you will continue to take it every time you buy something.

Because its not selling well. That's also one of many reasons I wouldn't hold my breath on any sort of rebate. This is their only product this year, and its not selling well. They're not giving back any of the disappointing revenue it has generated.

Well, they had the online offer too, with the Bonus Pack in the Online Store. My guess is that lost a lot of pre-orders placed with retailers, hence their now having extra stock. Doesnt necessarily mean it isnt selling well overall, but surely at least means it isnt selling as well as retailers thought it would, and isnt up to retail sales levels of the previous chapters.
